About the International Skills Authority

The International Skills Authority (ISA) exists to bring structure, credibility and public confidence to the recognition of real-world professional capability.

ISA develops competency frameworks, defines certification requirements, quality-assures recognition processes and issues verifiable credentials for professionals whose skills can be demonstrated against defined standards.

Who We Are

ISA is an independent standards body focused on the recognition of occupational and professional competence. It has been established to provide a credible framework for validating skills that may have been developed through employment, industry experience, self-directed learning, formal education, online learning, workplace practice or other recognized forms of prior learning.

The modern workforce is changing quickly. Professionals increasingly build capability through a combination of work experience, digital learning, short courses, artificial intelligence tools, online communities, mentoring and practical application. These pathways can produce real capability, but they are not always easy for employers, clients or recruiters to verify.

ISA provides a formal recognition structure for this changing environment. Its role is to define what competent performance looks like, assess or oversee assessment against that standard, and issue credentials that communicate verified capability in a clear, consistent and portable form.

Recognition Position

ISA does not require a single prescribed learning pathway. Certification is based on evidence of capability against a defined competency standard.

Why ISA Exists

Many capable professionals have developed valuable skills outside traditional education pathways. They may have learned through years of workplace practice, client delivery, informal mentorship, online learning, YouTube, ChatGPT, industry tools, vendor platforms or practical problem-solving. In the employment market, however, informal learning is often difficult to communicate with credibility.

ISA addresses this gap by converting demonstrated capability into a structured credential. The goal is not to replace education or training. The goal is to provide a trusted recognition pathway for skills that already exist and can be evidenced against a professional standard.

This is particularly important as the global workforce adapts to automation and AI. As learning becomes more flexible, personalized and self-directed, independent skills recognition becomes more important for professionals and employers alike.

What ISA Is Not

ISA is not positioned as a traditional college, university or course provider.

ISA does not certify attendance alone and does not treat course completion as a substitute for demonstrated professional capability.
